Police recovered the dismembered body of a man from railway track at Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district on Sunday.
However, the family members of the victim claimed the incident as a planned murder.
The body was recovered from railgate along the Kamalganj Upazila Parishad at around 8AM on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Iqbal Hossain, 30, son of Ilias Mia from Barcheg village under Rahimpur union of the upazila. Iqbal had been missing since Saturday afternoon.
According to local and police sources, locals saw the dismembered body near railgate on Sunday morning. After the news spread, Iqbal’s family arrived at the scene and identified the body.
The police, led by sub-inspector Dipak Sarkar of Sreemangal Railway Police, recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar General Hospital for autopsy.
Iqbal's family reported that he had gone to his in-laws’ house at Bherachhara village of Kamalganj union on Friday. His in-laws said he left to return home on Saturday afternoon. Initially, they were able to reach him via phone, but after that, his phone found switched off.
Following the incident, Iqbal’s father and father-in-law also filed a General Diary (GD) with Kamalganj police station.
Iqbal's wife, Rima, 25, said, "My husband could not have fallen under the train; this is a planned murder. I demand justice for my husband’s murder."
Iqbal’s father, Mohammad Ilias Mia, expressed, "I demand justice for my son's murder. I want a thorough investigation to find the truth."
Kamalganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Syed Iftakhar Hossain said that Iqbal’s father and father-in-law had visited police station on Saturday, to file a GD, mentioning that they had been unable to contact him since the afternoon.
Sreemangal Railway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Moudud Howlader said that they recovered the dismembered body from railway line.
He also added that whether this is a case of planned murder or suicide will be determined after getting autopsy report and further investigation.
