Students of Barishal University (BU) on Sunday locked up the registrar office of the university demanding a four point charter of demand.
Hundreds of student of the university assembled in front of the registrar office and locked it chanting different slogans around 1:30 PM. Later, the students set on fire to the effigy of the registrar.
Campus sources said that students from different departments of the university staged demonstratin on the campus demanding removal of the university's registrar Monirul Islam. They raised the demand as Monirul, the former president of Awami League Bhola's Monpura upazila unit, took position against the student during the July Mass uprising.
The agitators submitted a memorandum to the university's vice-chancellor, Professor Dr Shuchita Sharmin, demanding to press home their demand on Thursday.
They also gave the university administration a 2-day ultimatum but the university authorities did not take any effective measures, the agitating students said.
They would continue their protest on the campus until their demands were met, they added.
Their four point demands are withdrawal of false and insulting allegations against English Department Professor Dr Muhsin Uddin and reinstatement to the Syndicate and academic council, removal of contractually appointed registrar M Monirul Islam, removal of teachers who are allies of fascism and dictatorship from profitable committees and the VC must publicly apologize for rehabilitating the accomplices of fascism.
