A joint operation by Bangladesh Army and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) resulted in the detention of nine individuals in Cumilla city and Sadar Dakshin upazila early Sunday.
The operation, which began at 3:50 am, led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, drugs, and other illegal materials.
The first raid took place in Durgapur area of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin police station, where local arms supplier Md Rubel was arrested. Rubel, who had recently gained attention for publicly displaying firearms, was reportedly supplying weapons to teenage gangs.
In a separate raid at Palashi Goli in Cumilla city, three men—Md Akib Hossain, 29, Md Sajjad Hossain, 47, and Md Shahadat Hossain, 28, were arrested.
The joint forces recovered a 9 mm pistol, a revolver with ammunition, Yaba pills, foreign liquor, gold chains, laptops, and other illegal items hidden under a table.
Following the raids, based on information gathered from the detainees, four more teenage gang members—Md Saiful Islam, 19, Md Imran Hossain Ratan, 19, Md Mojahid, 21, and Md Rafiul Alam Shafi, 20—were apprehended from various areas, along with four mobile phones.
The joint forces also detained another suspect, Humayun Kabir, 45, who is believed to be connected to the gang. The detainees are currently being processed for handover to the relevant police stations for legal action.
