The hanging body of July martyr Shahid Jasim Uddin's 18-year-old daughter, who was gang raped last month, was found at their house in the capital's Shekhertek area on Saturday night.
Locals rescued her in an unconscious state and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
According to the victim's family, on March 18, she was gang raped while returning from her maternal grandparents' house in Patuakhali's Dumki upazila.
Later, a case was filled with Dumki Police Station in this connection.
The family members alleged that she had been suffering from severe mental trauma after the gang rape incident. She took her life as unable to bear the burden.
Saiful Islam, uncle of the victim, said, "I was at my shop. Suddenly I received a call from my village informing me that my niece had passed away. I rushed to the hospital and found her body there."
The victim's mother said she and her son went out to pick her another daughter from a nearby madrasa as the family was planning to go to their village home today.
When she returned, she found the door of the victim's room locked. As she did not respond to their calls, they broke the door open and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.
