Mohamedan Sporting Club skipper Towhid Hridoy, once again under scrutiny after expressing dissent towards an umpire's decision which resulted in a fine and a demerit point.
The incident occurred during Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match against Gazi Group Cricketers on Saturday while he was caught out off a delivery by Wasi Siddique but remained standing at the wicket for a long time.
Despite the opposition players' celebrations, Hridoy was reluctant to leave the field.
According to the ICC code of conduct, remaining on the field after being dismissed is a punishable offense. As a result, Hridoy has been fined Tk 10,000 and received one demerit point.
This penalty brings Hridoy's total demerit points to eight. As per regulations, accumulating eight to eleven demerit points warrants a four-match suspension.
Consequently, Hridoy's participation in Mohamedan's crucial upcoming match against Abahani appears highly uncertain, which would be a significant blow to his team.
However, Hridoy's suspensions in DPL surrounded by considerable drama. He was banned, then it was reduced, then it was back on because of pressure from Tamim Iqbal's team, and finally, it was put on hold for a year.
