Rampant extortion must stop

Published : Sunday, 27 April, 2025 at 12:00 AM  Count : 412
Dear Sir,

Extortion has become a matter of concern for the common people. Notable incidents of open extortion are going viral on social media and in various news media. Yet, the administration seems to be playing the role of a silent spectator. In Dhaka and various districts across the country, extortion is being carried out recklessly in broad daylight from buses, roads, and shops. They even resort to intimidation, threats, and physical force if there is a delay or inability to pay. Who runs this dark world of extortion? Where is their source?

Therefore, the local administration and law enforcement agencies need to be stricter and bring the extortionists under the law. Ordinary people also need to be aware from their own positions. It is the demand of the time to abandon the role of silent spectators and speak out against extortion.
