Eighteen years after its establishment, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) still lacks a permanent temple for its Hindu students.

The precarious state of the temporary worship space was highlighted when its entire structure, including the gate, collapsed during strong winds on April 22.

Following the collapse, students voiced their frustration and called on the administration to construct a permanent temple.

The university administration assured them that a temporary temple will be built quickly while considering their demand for a permanent structure.

Rahul Roy, a student from CSE department, expressed his disappointment, stating, ‘The surrounding garbage and mosquito infestation hindered worship at the temporary temple.’

The university administration failed to reflect the non-communal spirit of poet Nazrul by their inability to construct a permanent temple, he added.

Md. Hafizur Rahman, Director of Planning, Development and Works Department said, ‘There is a tri-religious (Hindu + Buddhist + Christian) worship place project in the university's master plan.’

The temple is included in it and it will be built very soon according to the meeting decision, he added.
