Dhaka University (DU) authorities have approved re-admission for seven students who were permanently expelled for alleged involvement in question leaks and digital fraud during admission tests.
Syndicate members made this decision during Thursday's meeting, April 24, chaired by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, marking a significant reversal of previous disciplinary actions.
University officials had permanently expelled 63 students on 28 January 2020 for reportedly gaining admission through illegal means including digital fraud during various academic years' entrance examinations. Seven of these students will now resume their studies at different stages.
University Proctor, Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, explained that these students had challenged their expulsion in court.
"Following court instructions withdrawing their expulsion orders, university authorities will facilitate their re-admission," he stated. "They can resume academic activities from where they were expelled."
Students granted re-admission include SM Rifat Hossain and Nahid Iftekhar from Political Science (2016-17 session); Md Mehedi Hasan and Salman F. Rahman Hridoy from Social Welfare and Research Institute (2015-16); Shihab Hasan Khan from Islamic Studies (2015-16); Shashwata Kumar Ghosh from World Religions and Culture (2012-13) and Md Lavlur Rahman from Political Science (2015-16).
This development represents a significant shift in university disciplinary proceedings, with legal intervention playing a crucial role in reversing previous administrative decisions regarding examination misconduct allegations.
