A worker was killed while working at Akij Steel Mills at Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj district early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Ali, 40, son of Md. Hafez Uddin from Gollokhali village under Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district.
It is reported that the incident occurred around 3:30 AM on Saturday at Akij Steel Mills, located at Puran Bausia village of the upazila, while he was working in rolling roughing section.
Khorshed Alam, an employee of Akij Steel Mills, stated that Abdul Ali was employed as a foreman at rolling roughing section of the rod mill. While working at night, he slipped and a sheet of iron with a temperature of 975°C struck the right side of his head, killing him on the spot.
Regarding the incident, Gazaria Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shahidul Islam said that upon receiving information about the accident, police went to the scene and recovered the body.
The body has been sent to Munshiganj General Hospital for an autopsy.
Legal procedures are underway in this regard, added the police official.
