The Ministry of Education has finally removed Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud Kamal, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), and Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Two separate notifications, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry, ASM Kashem, were issued on Friday night (April 25).

According to the notifications, both officials have been relieved of their respective positions under Sections 10(2) and 12(2) of "Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003" and have been directed to return to their previous academic departments.
This move by the government comes in response to the demands of KUET students following a prolonged movement that lasted 65 days and a hunger strike that continued for 58 hours.

Earlier on Wednesday night (April 23), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, citing Ministry of Education, announced that the process of relieving Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor had been initiated.

It was also mentioned that a search committee would be formed promptly to appoint new officials and a senior professor would be temporarily assigned the duties of Vice-Chancellor to maintain regular university activities.

On April 21, 32 students began a hunger strike, intensifying the situation.

Several students were later hospitalized due to health complications.

Despite the announcement of their removal, neither Dr. Masud Kamal nor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam resigned immediately.

Reportedly, Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam sent a letter to Education Adviser on Thursday (April 24), demanding a more in-depth investigation instead of resigning.
