Naogaon's Raninagar upazila administration has seized 29,310kg rice of the food-friendly program.
During drives from 10AM to 7PM on Friday at Kutkutitala area of Abadpukur Bazar in the upazila, conducted by Raninagar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sheikh Naushad Hasan, the rice was seized.
Getting an information that the rice was kept at two godowns belonging to Jahangir Alam Babu, a drive was conducted by Raninagar Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sheikh Nowshad Hasan in Kutkutitala area of Abadpukur Bazar on Friday.
Then the 29,310kg rice was seized from the godowns.
Magistrate Nowshad said that a mobile court raided the two godowns and found 453 sacks of 50-kg rice and 222 sacks of 30-kg rice.
Several empty government rice sacks were also found at the scene, he added.
However, the main accused, Jahangir Alam Babu, and others fled the scene before the raid.
The seized rice worth Tk 12 lakh was to the Raninagar government food warehouse for safekeeping.
