CHATTOGRAM, Apr 25: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced two people to life-term imprisonment in drugs case filed with Karnaphuli Police Station (PS) in 2021.
Additional Metropolitan and Sessions Court Judge Begum Sirajam Munira handed down the verdict.
The condemned convicts are: Syed Nur, 32, son of Mir Ahmed, and Imran Sadeq, 29, son of Abdul Malek, residents of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox's Bazar District.
The court also fined Syed Nur Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six more months of imprisonment, and Imran Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer three more months in jail.
According to the case statement, on May 25 in 2021, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) arrested truck driver Syed Nur and his associate Imran Sadek along with 29,500 yaba tablets from Shikalbaha Y Junction on the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway under Karnaphuli PS.
Later on, BGB Nayeb Subedar Ahmed Ullah, who was posted at RAB-7 Hathazari Camp, filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Karnaphuli PS in this connection.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court, and following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Thursday.
