At least 50 people were injured as the supporters of Awami
League clashed with the supporters of BNP over establishing supremacy in
Habiganj's Azmiriganj upazila on Friday morning.
The clash incident took place around 10: 30 AM at Noagarh village of Jalsukha union in the upazila.
Among
the injured are Manu Miah, 50, Nihad, 20, Israt, 27, Shafiq Miah, 55,
Abu Sayeed, 35, Taskir Miah, 30, Saddam, 30, Mariam Akter, 43, Jabeda,
35, Machum, 18, Shahin, 28, Sabbir, 18, Jamila Khatun, 48, Ali Nur, 60
and Wahidur, 27.
According to locals, there had been a
long-standing dispute between Noawagar village BNP leader Akter Mia and
Awami League leader Shahjahan Mia over establishing supremacy in the
area.
As a sequel to the dispute, the supporters of Shahjahan assaulted a supporter of Akter on April 22.
The
supporters of the two groups swooped on each others with lethal weapons
following the assault incident. That left 50 people of the both groups
injured on the spot.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to nearby hospitals including Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital Hospital for treatment.
Being
informed, a team of police rushed to the scene and brought the
situation under control, said Azmiriganj Police Station
officer-in-charge ABM Maidul Hasan.
Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any kind of untoward situation, the OC added.
