In order to maintain law and order in the country, units under various infantry divisions and independent brigades of the Bangladesh Army, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, conducted several joint operations in different areas of the country, including the capital from April 18 to April 23.
During these operations, a total of 204 individuals were arrested, including murder suspects, illegal arms holders, listed criminals, identified miscreants, smugglers, juvenile gang members, drug dealers, addicts, and members of fraudulent networks.
According to a press release issued by ISPR Assistant Director Rashedul Alam Khan on Thursday, April 24, the following items were recovered from the arrested individuals:
A total of 16 illegal firearms, 410 different types of ammunition, one sound grenade, four cocktails, six local hand bombs, various narcotics, various types of domestic weapons used in terrorist activities, gold ornaments, motorcycles, stolen mobile phones, CCTV cameras, illegal passports, illegal medicines and cash were recovered from the arrested criminals. The detainees were handed over to the respective police stations after preliminary questioning and legal processing.
In addition to the operations, the Bangladesh Army has been conducting patrols and security activities across different areas to ensure public safety.
To ease the recent unrest in the industrial sector over wages and bonuses, the army facilitated constructive dialogues and negotiations between garment factory owners and workers. Furthermore, to ensure the smooth conduct of the ongoing SSC and equivalent examinations, army units are actively patrolling exam centers nationwide.
The Bangladesh Army has reiterated its commitment to continuing such operations to maintain peace and order throughout the country. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest army camp.
