The Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) members and owners of international recruiting agencies have demanded immediate reopen of the Malaysian labour market for Bangladeshis by complying with all the conditions set by the Malaysian authorities.
While 13 other resource countries have already resumed workers export to Malaysia under the new conditions, Bangladesh is lagging behind significantly. As a result, the country is on the verge of losing the opportunity to send 1.2 million workers, putting at risk an estimated $5 billion in potential remittance earnings. To protect the interests of the agencies and migrants, government must take immediate measures to reopen the market for Bangladeshis, the agency owners demanded.
They made the demand following a human chain formed in front of the Probashi Kalyan Bhaban (Expatriates' Welfare Building) at Dhaka's Eskaton on Thursday.
BAIRA member Farid Ahmed Majumder of Al Supto Overseas, also secretary general of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB), Mohammad Mohiuddin of Purabi International, Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman of Earth Smart Bangladesh, A.M.S. Sagar of EMS International, Mohammad Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan of Tasnim Overseas, Mohammad Atikur Rahman Biswas of Al Aqaba Associates, Sagar Mahmud of Al Ghaffari, Mohammad Moniruzzaman of Skyland Recruiting, Kafil Uddin Majumder of Freedom Overseas, Hawladar Forkan Uddin of SF Global, and Dubai-based businessman Mohammad Alauddin also spoke among leaders and owners of prominent recruiting agencies.
Following the human chain, a delegation of BAIRA general members led by Farid Ahmed Majumder have submitted a memorandum to the Expatriate Welfare Adviser Asif Nazrul at his office.
In the memorandum, BAIRA members stressed the importance of ensuring safe and affordable migration for Bangladeshi workers. They called on the government to urgently take measures to reopen all currently suspended labor markets, including Malaysia, prioritizing the interests of migrant workers.
They pledged full cooperation with the government in implementing any official recruitment mechanism, emphasizing their commitment to following all legal procedures in sending workers abroad.
