Chief Election Commi-ssioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said on Thursday that the Election Commission is working on tasks that are necessary and within its power before the next election.

He said this when asked if the Commission would wait for the National Consensus Commission's decisions on election reforms. He replied that the Election Commission is focusing on what it can and should do now.
The CEC spoke to reporters after meeting with Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle in Dhaka.

Nasir Uddin said the National Consensus Commission would decide on political matters. The Election Commission will see those decisions later. But for now, they are working on urgent tasks that they can handle.

About the meeting, the CEC said that the Australian High Commissioner promised to support the Election Commission in any way needed before the next election.

"She told us they are ready to help the Election Commission as needed," he said.

The High Commissioner asked about the Commission's preparations for the next parliamentary election and reform activities. The CEC said he gave her full details.

Susan Ryle said to the CEC, Australia will continue to support the Election Commission's work for free and fair elections. She said their meeting was very productive.
