With launching of e-ticketing service at port, everything is going by rules: CPA chair

CHATTOGRAM, April 24: Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman has said that everything is going according to the rules as the e-ticketing service has been introduced at port.

He said this at a press conference on the occasion of the 138th Port Day at Shaheed Md Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium on Thursday noon.

CPA chairman said that everything is being done according to the rules as the e-ticketing service has been introduced. Launching the Maritime Single Window service; this will brighten the image of the country outside world.

Payments will become digital. There is no alternative to digitalization and de-carbonization. By June, the entire operation of the port will be automated. Chittagong port will be a green maritime corridor.

Matarbari, Bay Terminal, Laldia will be then Green Ports. With the opening of these terminals, new shipping routes will be opened.

He also said the door of possibilities has been opened due to trade agreements with different countries. New investments are coming after Business Summit. For this, the capacity of the port needs to be increased. After five years, 50 lakh TEUs containers will be handled.

On April 22, an agreement was signed with Japanese firm Pentaocean Construction Company and Toa Corporation to construct a terminal and bay-terminal at Matarbari deep sea port. Matarbari deep sea port will go into operation by 2029.

According to Chattogram Port sources, container handling at Chittagong Port in the first nine months of the financial year 2024-2025 has increased by 5.01 percent compared to previous fiscal 2023-2024.

In addition, in the first nine months of fiscal year 2024-2025, general cargo handling was 9,71,13,161 metric tons, which is 5.96 percent more than the previous fiscal 2023-2024. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 3,058 ships were handled.

According to Chittagong Port sources, about 85 percent of the revenue of Chittagong Port comes from shipping service and cargo handling sector.

In the first nine months of the fiscal 2024-2025, the revenue collection was Tk 3745.23 crore; which is 10.56 percent more than the previous fiscal and the revenue surplus increased by 8.77 percent.

Regarding the recruitment of manpower, the port chairman said, our young generation is a big possibility. They have to be employed. Chittagong Port has issued recruitment notice against 365 vacant posts. In addition, 663 people have been promoted simultaneously in the history of the port.

Meanwhile, construction of a hospital is underway near Jetty Gate No. 3 to modernize the health care center for port workers. Besides, an eye outpatient department has also been opened at the port hospital.
