Police rescued three Sri Lankan nationals on Wednesday in Bagerhat’s Mollahat upazila, who were being held captive for ransom.
Police also arrested four individuals involved in the abduction.
Those foreigners were rescued around 12:30 AM from a house of Emdad Kazi in Dakshin Ambari village in the upazila.
The rescued nationals were identified as Malavi Pathirana, Pathirana and Thuppi Mudiyanselage Neel.
The arrested individuals are Kazi Emdad Hossain, 52, a resident of Dakshin Ambari area of the upazila, Shahidul Sheikh, 24, Joni Sheikh, 38, both from Khatiagar village of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila and SM Samsul Alam, 45, a resident of Char Kulia area in the upazila.
According to police sources, one of the rescued Sri Lankan nationals is a woman.
Two of the three had come to Dhaka on April 22 at business invitation from Shahidul.
Subsequently, a ransom demand was made to their families in Sri Lanka via a Bangladeshi phone number.
Confirming the matter, Bagerhat Superintendent of Police (SP) M Touhidul Arif said that upon receiving information, police conducted a raid and rescued three Sri Lankan nationals who were being held for ransom.
Four individuals involved in the kidnapping have arrested. Legal proceedings are underway in this regard, added the SP.
