Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu pointed out Anamul Haque Bijoy's consistency and superb form as instrumental in his selection for the second and final Test against Zimbabwe, starting in Chattogram from Monday.
The call-up marked Bijoy's comeback in the Bangladesh's Test squad after three years.
"The consistency and concentration with which he played in the four-day tournament Dhaka Premier League is commendable," Ashraf told the reporters on Thursday.
"We feel that time is ripe for him to make a comeback. It's not that he should score a century or a double century. He should do what he has done in domestic cricket so far."
Bangladesh lost the first Test against Zimbabwe by three wickets and so will play the second final Test to save them from ultimate blushes.
Bijoy has been in tremendous form of late, scoring 874 runs with four centuries for Gazi Group Cricketers in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League.
In the process, he has completed his 50 centuries in the List A cricket.
But when it appeared that he was rewarded for his performance in DPL, a 50-over format of cricket for the Test series against Zimbabwe, it actually was not so.
Rather he has good performance in the country's last four-day tournament Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) in which he scored 700 runs in seven matches at an average of 67.37. That performance was mainly counted for his Test selection.
"Bijoy was included because of his consistency, good temperament and ball selection ability," Ashraf said.
Bijoy's ability to play till the end is one of the reasons that selectors noticed.
"Pattern of his game is little different. We noticed the pattern of his century, he played till the end some matches."
To make the way of Bijoy, Zakir Hasan was excluded from the side.
Bijoy made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2013. Although he has played only five Test matches so far, he couldn't make much of an impact, scoring only 100 runs. �"BSS
