After their three-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe in the first Test at Sylhet, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made two changes to the squad ahead of the second and final match of the series, which is set to begin on April 28 at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.

Wicketkeeper-batter Anamul Haque Bijoy has earned a recall to the Test side after nearly two years, while left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam has received his maiden call-up in the longest format.

The changes come in the wake of pacer Nahid Rana's departure for Pakistan to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), for which he was granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC). To bolster the spin department in subcontinental conditions, the selectors have opted to bring in Tanvir as a like-for-unlike replacement.

Tanvir, 28, who has previously represented Bangladesh in four T20i matches since his professional debut in 2017. A consistent performer in first-class cricket, Tanvir has picked up 134 wickets in 41 matches, including six five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match haul.

Bijoy, meanwhile, has forced his way back into the Test side through sheer consistency across formats. After being dropped following the ODI series against Sri Lanka in March 2023, and last featuring in a Test on the 2022 West Indies tour, the right-handed batter has been in prolific touch.

In the recent NCL, he amassed 700 runs with one century and six fifties in 13 innings. His purple patch continued in the BPL, where he tallied 392 runs for Durbar Rajshahi including a century and two fifties.

Currently setting the DPL alight, Bijoy has already accumulated 874 runs for Gazi Group Cricketers in just 14 innings at an astonishing average of 79.45 and a strike rate of 97.43, which include four centuries and as many fifties. No other batter in the league has crossed even the 700-run mark before.

Squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Vice Captain), Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
