Students of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) took to the streets in celebration on Thursday afternoon following acceptance of their demand for resignation of the university’s Vice-Chancellor.
The victory rally began in front of Student Welfare Center and made its way past Durbar Bangla and administrative building, eventually concluding at university’s central Shaheed Minar.
Students carried both the national flags of Bangladesh and Palestine, symbols of solidarity and protest.
Throughout the rally, students chanted powerful slogans such as “Politics has no place in KUET”, “Education and terror cannot coexist”, “The student community has awakened”, “No to political brokerage, yes to the streets”, “Autocracy has no home in KUET” and “Who are you? Who am I? Bangladesh, Bangladesh.”
Student representatives Mohan from Textile Engineering, Batch ‘19, Md. Rahatul Islam from Civil Engineering, Batch ‘20, Obaidul Islam from EEE, Batch ‘19, Toufikul Islam from Leather Engineering, Batch ‘19, and Jhalok from Civil Engineering, Batch ‘20 addressed the media during the rally.
They expressed gratitude to all who supported their movement including injured students, those who spent nights in the open, hunger strikers, education adviser, UGC members and journalists from various media outlets.
From 4 PM, students began gathering from different residential halls, assembling in front of Student Welfare Center. There, for over half an hour they expressed their joy in a vibrant display of student unity.
Today’s rally saw a massive turnout, marking a significant moment in KUET’s student-led movement for administrative accountability and institutional reform.
