A signal light post has been installed on experimental basis for pedestrians to enable them to cross a road safely at Mirpur area under the joint initiative of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a DMP statement said today.

It said as part of a pilot project the signal light will be operative from 8 am to 12 noon everyday on weekdays for pedestrians to use a zebra crossing in front of National Heart Foundation in Mirpur.
According to the statement the system was launched under Dhaka Road Traffic Safety Project, while DMP’s additional commissioner (traffic) M Sarwar said signal light would reduce traffic congestion and ensure pedestrian safe crossing.

Sarwar said that JICA and DMP’s Traffic Division were working together to make safer Dhaka’s traffic system as he inspected the system along with deputy police commissioner Gautam Kumar Biswas and JICA officials.
