The Teachers’ Association of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has expressed deep concern over the recent decision to relieve the university’s Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor from their duties, stating that the move represents a defeat for justice carried out under pressure and without proper investigation.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, April 24, the association’s president, Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam and general secretary, Professor Dr. Faruk Hossain, voiced their dismay.
“We aspired for a politically neutral campus,” the statement read. “But now we see that those who once championed the cause of a non-partisan academic environment are themselves entangled in clutches of dark political forces. This has been a key reason behind the failure of all efforts by faculty members to resolve the crisis that erupted on campus on February 18.”
The statement further highlighted that even Education Adviser and the delegation sent by him appeared helpless in the face of the situation. “As a result, the decision to relieve Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor; without a fair and thorough investigation, marks a serious blow to justice,” it said.
Drawing a broader concern, Teachers’ Association warned that if such activities continue even eight months after historic July uprising, it could endanger not only the academic environment of KUET but also the overall state discipline of Bangladesh.
Nonetheless, the association reaffirmed its commitment to restoring and maintaining a conducive educational atmosphere at the university.
