Ex-DB Chief Harun’s flat and plots seized

A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the seizure offlat and three land plots owned by Mohammad Harunor Rashid, the former head of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC).

According to ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Zainal Abedin, Harun allegedly amassed hundreds of crores of taka in illicit wealth both at home and abroad by abusing his power. The seizure was deemed necessary as he was reportedly attempting to transfer or sell the assets.
Earlier on February 19, the court ordered the seizure of 100 bighas of land, five buildings, two additional flats, and over Tk 1.26 crore from 10 bank accounts linked to Harun. On the same day, the court also froze assets belonging to his brother, ABM Shahriar, including 30 bighas of land, 11 bank accounts, and shares in three companies.

The ACC investigation into Harun’s wealth remains ongoing.
