Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) broke their fast early Thursday after 58 hours' of strike.
At about 1AM, Prof Tanzimuddin Khan, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), fed the protesting students juices after reading out the official message from the Ministry of Education, stating that in light of recent events and in order to restore normal academic activities, the VC and pro VC were relieved of their duties.
Then the students brought out joyous procession and chanted different slogans. Later, they returned to their respective dormitories.
Demanding resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammed Masud, KUET students had been protesting for the last few days. They started humger strike from Monday.
Despite discussion with Education Adviser CR Abrar on Wednesday morning, the students continued their protest. The adviser then failed to break their fast.
On Wednesday noon, the authorities withdrew the expalsion of 37 students, some of whom were leading the movement. Besides, all halls were opened.
The academic activities of the university will start on May 4, this decision was taken at the university syndicate meeting.
