A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants for actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon, former Detective Branch (DB) chief Harun-or-Rashid, and former Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nazmul in a case filed by Shaon's stepmother, Nishi Islam.
On Tuesday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shanaullah issued the warrants after the accused failed to appear in court despite being summoned.
The case, filed on 13 March, accuses 12 individuals-including Shaon, her father Md. Ali, her sisters Mahin Afroz Shinjon and Senjuti, Shinjon's husband Sabbir, and several police officials-of attempted murder, assault, and intimidation.
According to the complaint, Nishi Islam married Md. Ali on 21 February 2024, only to later discover that he was already married with children. When confronted, Ali allegedly attempted to conceal the truth through deception.
Following this, Nishi claims she was threatened by Shaon's family and assaulted at her home.
