A group of students from Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University, Sylhet's Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology held a protest rally and went on hunger strike on Wednesday in solidarity with the students demanding resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET).
According to the KUET students, more than a hundred students were injured in clashes at KUET over demands to end student politics on February 18. All residential halls were closed indefinitely on February 25. The students took a stand in front of the administrative building demanding the opening of the residential halls on April 13.
On the night of April 14, a decision was taken to temporarily expel 37 students for their involvement in the clashes at a syndicate meeting. Later, on April 15, Students have been demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Muhammad Mashud since Monday afternoon.
Students protesting at KUET VC's resignation took out a coffin procession. More than two hundred university students participated in the coffin procession. The coffin procession started from the university's Student Welfare Centre at 6:15pm on Wednesday and finished in front of the Student Welfare Centre.
Then, the procession passed in front of the foot of the university's Durbar Bangla and took position in front of the administrative building. Here, the students protested for some time demanding the resignation of the VC.
In Dhaka University, 17 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Democratic Student Union are on a hunger strike to death at Dhaka University in solidarity with the KUET student movement and demanding the resignation of the institution's vice-chancellor.
The hunger strike at the foot of the Raju memorial sculpture at Dhaka University has been going on for 14 hours.
Meanwhile, eight leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Democratic Students' Union's Jahangirnagar University branch began a hunger strike at the Mahua stage on the Jahangirnagar University campus around noon on Wednesday.
