The High Court (HC) on Wednesday stayed the effectiveness for three-month of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) directive that required prior approval from senior officials before arresting any accused named in the FIRs related to the July-August mass uprising.

The HC bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi passed the order after a hearing on a writ petition challenging the DMP directive.

The HC bench also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the office order should not be declared illegal.
