Polytechnic students have revoked their decision to suspend ongoing protests, despite the Ministry of Education forming a committee to address their six-point demands.
On Wednesday, 23 April, they announced the decision to the media.
"Students do not trust the committee formed by the Ministry of Education. Similar committees were established in the past, yet our demands were never met. That is why, with the consensus of all students, we have withdrawn the decision to suspend our movement," said Md Sabbir Ahmed, acting Cell Secretary of the Technical Student Movement, the organisation leading the protests.
Ahmed confirmed that a representative conference, scheduled for Thursday, will determine the next course of action. Delegates from various regional polytechnic institutions have already arrived in Dhaka, while others have been urged to attend.
Students had initially announced a suspension of the protests during a press conference on Tuesday night at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, warning that demonstrations would resume if implementation faced delays or negligence.
On the same afternoon, the Technical and Madrasah Education Division under the Ministry of Education established a committee, headed by an Additional Secretary, tasked with formulating a roadmap to fulfil the students' demands. The committee notably includes an adviser from the Technical Student Movement.
