An elderly man was hacked to death and his son was injured in a clash over a land related dispute in Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at Titagazi's house in Ward No. 9 of Dhalai union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Alam, 64, son of the late Sultan Ahmed of the same area.

According to locals, Shafiqul and his son Rabiul were working in their house when Md Selim, a resident of the same house, and his son Sajib Uddin allegedly attacked them with lethal weapons, leaving them injured on the spot.

Later, neighbors recovered them from the spot and took them to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared Shafiqul dead.

Confirming the matter, Hathazari Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kazi Tarek Aziz said that the process of filing a case was underway in this connection.

Whoever the perpetrators are, they will be brought under the law quickly and police already launched an operation to apprehend them, the ASP added.
