The Pioneer Facility, an international fund that finances socially, economically, and environmentally impactful initiatives, has announced its first investment in Bangladesh, allocating USD 500,000 to iFarmer.
The Pioneer Facility, managed by Nexus for Development, will directly benefit smallholder farmers through iFarmer by facilitating fair procurement of their produce and ensuring timely access to high-quality agricultural inputs sourced directly from manufacturers.
This investment marks Pioneer Facility’s first move into Bangladesh since expanding its country focus in 2024.
iFarmer empowers smallholder farmers by providing them with access to high-quality agricultural inputs, financial support, agri-advisory, insurance, and fair market linkages. By bridging the gap between farmers, suppliers, and financial institutions, iFarmer helps improve yields, increase incomes, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
“Smallholder farmers in Bangladesh face persistent challenges in accessing affordable financing and quality inputs,” said Laura Alsenas, executive director at Nexus for Development.
“iFarmer’s innovative model is transforming agricultural supply chains and improving economic opportunities for farmers. Our investment will help scale their impact, ultimately contributing to more resilient and sustainable food systems in Bangladesh.”
iFarmer's Co-founder and CEO Fahad Ifaz said, “With this funding from the Pioneer Facility, we can expand our reach and support even more farmers with better access to financing and high-quality inputs,” said . “This investment will help strengthen our supply chains and enhance the livelihoods of thousands of farmers across Bangladesh.”
Through the Pioneer Facility, Nexus for Development supports high-impact enterprises like iFarmer that address climate, gender, and poverty challenges. The Singapore-based fund has disbursed over 3.7 million across Southeast Asia and Bangladesh.
