Barcelona moved a step closer to securing the La Liga title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mallorca on Tuesday, extending their lead over second-placed Real Madrid to seven points.
Dani Olmo scored the only goal early in the second half to hand Hansi Flick’s side the win at the Olympic Stadium, where they dominated but were repeatedly denied by an inspired Leo Roman. The Mallorca goalkeeper, making his first league appearance of 2025, made ten saves in a standout performance.
With Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid on the horizon, Flick opted to rest several key players. Ansu Fati made his first start since October, while Hector Fort was deployed at left-back and Ferran Torres replaced the injured Robert Lewandowski up front.
Barcelona created numerous opportunities in the first half, hitting the post and testing Roman, but went into the break without a goal. After the restart, Olmo finished a well-worked move to break the deadlock.
Fati, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez all had chances to extend the lead, but Roman stood firm. Mallorca had a goal ruled out for offside and a late penalty appeal dismissed as Barcelona held on.
The Catalan giants now have five games left in the season, including a crucial El Clasico clash with Real Madrid on May 11.
