The government has formally approved the Police Dress Rules, 2025, replacing the previous 2004 regulations, according to a gazette notification issued by the Police Headquarters.
The new rules introduce comprehensive specifications for uniforms, rank badges, and monograms for all ranks—from the Inspector General to constables—and provide detailed dress codes for specialized units such as the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Armed Police Battalion (APBn), and women police. The national flower 'Shapla' remains the central element in the police insignia.
The regulation aims to standardize the appearance of law enforcement personnel across operational duties and formal ceremonies.
Earlier, on January 20, the government unveiled new uniform designs to modernise the appearance of the country's law enforcement agencies.
Following a Law and Order Committee meeting at the Secretariat, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced distinct color schemes for each force. The police will now wear rust uniforms, RAB personnel will wear green olive and Ansar will be dressed in golden wheat, he added.
“These uniforms will be introduced gradually, replacing the current attire in phases,” the adviser said.
The updated uniform policy is seen as a step toward enhancing the professional image and identity of Bangladesh's law enforcement bodies.
