The price of gold has reached an all-time high, nearing Tk 200,000 per bhori (11.664 grams), as announced by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).
In a statement issued on Tuesday,BAJUS declared an increase of Tk 5,342 per bhori for 22-carat gold, raising the price to Tk 177,888 per bhori, the highest in the country's history.
The announcement was made in a press release signed by Masudur Rahman, Chairman of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
The new rates will take effect on Wednesday, April 23.
According to BAJUS, the adjustment was necessitated by a rise in the price of pure gold (known locally as 'tejaabi gold') in the local market. Considering the overall market situation, the association has set new prices for various grades of gold.
Under the updated pricing, 22-carat gold will now be sold at Tk 177,888 per bhori. The price for 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 169,805 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 145,543 per bhori. Gold crafted using traditional methods (Sonatan) will now be priced at Tk 120,512 per bhori.
