50 bhori gold ornaments looted from Panchagarh jewelry store

Thieves allegedly broke into a jewelry store and looted 50 bhori of gold ornaments in Panchagarh Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at Gini House Jewelry store in Baniapatti area in the upazila.

The owner of the jewelry store, Lob Banik, is a resident of the Baniapatti area in the municipal town.

Nanda Kumar Roy, an employee of the store, said that the shop was open on Monday during the day. Due to the shop owner's daughter's wedding, they closed the shop in the evening and went home.

Like other day, when he came to open the shop at 8 AM, saw that the shutter lock and the vault were broken, he said.

Later, the owner was informed and upon arrival, he found that all the gold ornaments had been looted.

Likhan Banik, son of the shop owner, said that we rushed to the shop after receiving the news. Then we informed the market committee and the police.

CCTV footage revealed the presence of 11 miscreants inside and outside the shop between 5 AM and 6 AM.

He stated that approximately 50 vori of gold, including earrings, rings and bangles, worth around Tk 80-85 lakh, had been looted.

Confirming the matter, Panchagarh Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abdullahil Zaman said that police started working on the news of the theft at gold shop. However, we have not yet received a formal complaint.

Once we receive it, those involved in this incident will be quickly identified and brought under the law, the OC added.
