Dhaka University (DU) student Pinak Ranjan Sarker (24) was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan in his Hatirpool flat in the capital's Kalabagan area, police confirmed on Tuesday, 22 April.
Pinak, a Master's student in Drawing and Painting, was discovered around 1:00 AM on Monday night after his roommate, Zahidul Islam, alerted authorities. His body has been transferred to Dhaka Medical College morgue for a post-mortem examination.
"Initially, we are treating the death as a suicide. A note written by him has been found on social media," stated Moktaruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Kalabagan Police Station. "A UD (unnatural death) case has been filed. Further legal steps will be taken following investigation."
Classmates revealed that Pinak, originally from Mymensingh, had written, "No one is responsible for my death" on Facebook Messenger's note section shortly before his death. This alarming message prompted his flatmate to rush home from work, only to find their accommodation locked from the inside.
Upon contacting emergency services via 999, police arrived promptly, forced entry into the premises, and discovered Pinak's body suspended from the ceiling fixture.
