Dear Sir,
Dhaka, the capital city, is already plagued with traffic congestion. Adding to this burden are battery-powered auto-rickshaws, which are now flooding the city streets without permission or adherence to regulations. These vehicles typically have no registration, and many of the drivers are underage and untrained. They frequently ignore traffic signals and drive recklessly. Sudden stops and abrupt turns have become regular occurrences, significantly increasing the risk of road accidents. According to the Road Transport Act, these types of vehicles are not permitted to operate in the capital.
Yet, they have been plying the streets freely for a long time. This has caused frustration and concern among licensed drivers and immense suffering for the general public. Moreover, these unregulated vehicles are contributing to severe disorder in the city's transport system. They pick up and drop off passengers wherever they please, without regard for designated routes or stops intensifying the traffic chaos. If this issue is neglected, public suffering will worsen and city life will become even more unbearable.
Therefore, in order to restore discipline in the transport system and ensure the comfort and safety of city residents, I earnestly urge the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, law enforcement agencies, and all relevant authorities to take immediate steps to completely ban the operation of battery-powered rickshaws in Dhaka.
