The much-anticipated Federation Cup final between Abahani Limited and Bashundhara Kings ended in unprecedented drama, as the match was suspended during extra time due to poor lighting conditions at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.
The pulsating contest saw both teams locked in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time, with two quick goals exchanged within the opening 13 minutes. The match then progressed into extra time, but after 15 minutes, fading daylight and the absence of floodlights rendered further play impossible.
As darkness fell over the stadium, match officials had no choice but to call a halt to proceedings. Bashundhara Kings had been reduced to ten men just before the interruption, following a red card shown to Fahim, adding further drama to an already fiery clash.
Abahani players and supporters urged for the match to continue, but with visibility dangerously low, the referee suspended the final. Organisers confirmed that the remaining of the match would be played at a later date, to be announced by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
The final, marked by a series of tense moments including a temporary pause due to a Boishakhi storm and several disciplinary cards, ended without a winner. Football fans now await the rescheduled conclusion of what has already proven to be a thrilling and turbulent Federation Cup finale.
