An official of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is allegedly involved in anti-government campaign at his office and such activities forced the ministry concerned to launch an investigation against him.
The official, Shyamol Kumar Das, Monitoring officer at the Small, Micro, & Cottage Industries Foundation (SMCIF) is also accused of misbehaviour, threats and abuse of his subordinates and indulging in corruption.
A video clip of Shyamol's anti-government speeches was leaked recently, causing huge discontent among the officials and employees inside the BSCIC.
The Daily Observer obtained the 16 minutes length footage, in which Das was seen making harsh, ugly, defamatory, threatening and conspiratorial speeches against the current government, student leaders/coordinators of the July-August mass uprising, and government supporters and renowned Islamic scholars of the country in front of some employees of BSCIC at its Motijheel office in Dhaka .
The clip was submitted to the Industries Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan along with a petition by Ripon Rout, Acting Extension Officer of SMCIF Sherpur Office.
It was known that the Industries Adviser forwarded the petition to Industries Secretary and he later sent it to Additional Industries Secretary Md Nuruzzaman for taking the next course of action.
Nearly four years ago, at least 100 SMCIF officials and employees filed a petition with the relevant authorities, bringing several serious complaints against Das.
Nepal Chandra Karmakar, the then Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, was given the responsibility of investigating the allegations.
SMCIF officials and employees have alleged that without talking to the complainants into consideration, he saved Shyamol by reporting in a completely biased manner taking his side.
When asked, Shyamol Kumar Das told The Daily Observer, "All the allegations brought against me are conspiratorial. A group of officials and employees inside our office is involved in this conspiracy. They don't want me to work here.
Regarding the video clip, he said this footage was edited one, and it was used by my opponents to frame me.
Afrin Akhtar Shimu, SMCIF's Loan Supervisor, Netrokona, filed a complaint of misconduct and indecent behaviour against Shyamal to the Executive Director of SMCIF and Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Industries on November 10, 2024, but he did not act to this complaint without taking any action against the accused.
She again filed a complaint with the Industries Adviser on January 6. this year, requesting him to take action against Shyamal.
Following this application, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Sahela Akhter was given the responsibility of investigating the complaint. Although the probe has been completed, no results have been known to date.
