A truck mechanic died of electrocution and a helper was injured when a dumper truck's tailgate was lifted in Panchagarh's Debiganj upazila on Monday.
The accident happened around 11:30 am at a garage of truck mechanic in the Abdulpur area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Rubel Islam, 25, son of Kalu Radi, a resident of Rajarampur village at Bhola Sadar upazila.
According to locals, the driver and helper of a dumper truck from adjacent Domar upazila came to Jewel Mechanic's garage for repairs.
While the vehicle was being repaired, the driver began to raise the truck's tailgate.
At one point, during the lifting, the tailgate came into contact with an 11,000-volt power line, and Rubel was electrocuted. Helper Habib was seriously injured while trying to save him.
Later, locals immediately called the electricity office, and authorities shut off the power supply.
Subsequently, fire service personnel arrived at the scene, rescued the injured, and took them to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex where an the on-duty doctor declared Rubel dead.
Confirming the matter, Debiganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) M Sohel Rana said that the body was sent to Panchagarh General Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal procedures are underway in this regard.
