A child was killed when she was run over by a covered van after being thrown from her mother's lap onto road being hit by a van in Gaibandha's Palashbari upazila.
The accident occurred at around 12 pm on Monday (April 21) in Dholbhanga Bazar area of the upazila.
The child was Aleya, 3, daughter of Army man Mahmud Mia of Purba Gopinathpur village under Pabnapur union of the upazila.
The child's grandfather, Shahjahan Mia, said that the child's mother was going to Palashbari Alhamra bus counter in a battery-powered van to go to her husband Mahmud Mia's workplace in Sirajganj with her daughter. On the way, another speeding van hit their van. Aleya fell from her mother's lap onto the road. Just at that time, a Gaibandha-bound covered van ran over the child, killing her on the spot.
Confirming the matter, Palashbari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahfuz said that the child's body has been recovered from the scene. The covered van has been seized, but the driver has fled.
