Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday praised government officials for ensuring a smooth and hassle-free Eid al-Fitr holiday, citing minimal traffic congestion and near-uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the nine-day festival period.
The commendation came during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka with top officials from the Ministries of Power, Energy, Road Transport and Bridges, and Railways.
“I continue to hear positive feedback from people across the country. Everyone has been saying how well-organised this Eid was,” said Professor Yunus. “You have set a new standard—and now it must be maintained throughout the year.”
The delegation was led by Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser overseeing the Ministries of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Power and Energy. He provided an overview of the preparations that led to the successful holiday management.
“Instead of operating in silos, the ministries worked together as one integrated team,” said Adviser Khan. “Even private stakeholders were involved. It was truly a whole-of-government effort.”
He cited the transformation of Saidabad Bus Terminal as an example of effective coordination. “When we first visited, it was filthy and chaotic—more like a giant urinal. We contacted the Environment Ministry and quickly addressed the issues.”
The adviser also highlighted the dedication of officials, noting that none of them went home for the holidays, opting instead to remain on the ground to oversee operations.
Looking ahead, Khan expressed confidence that the upcoming Eid al-Adha would also be managed effectively. “Inshallah, if everything goes as planned, there will be minimal load-shedding and no transport bottlenecks.”
Other officials present at the meeting included Sheikh Mohinuddin, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges; Ms. Farzana Momtaz, Secretary of the Electricity Division; Muhammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; and Siraj Syathi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
