BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday expressed optimism that the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh would soon be resolved, enabling the people to elect their own representatives through a credible election.

Speaking at a discussion and doa mahfil organised in memory of late BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Fakhrul said, "We have submitted our proposals to the reform commissions and are engaging in dialogues. We are hopeful that a widely acceptable solution will emerge through discussions and that the people will soon be able to elect their representatives."
The event was held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, and was arranged by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal to commemorate Noman, who passed away on February 25 this year.

Highlighting the current political uncertainty, Fakhrul said the country is undergoing a difficult phase as democracy remains unrestored. “We are living in uncertain times. When you watch television or read the newspapers, you’ll see that many previously settled matters have become subjects of doubt.”

He pointed out that the concepts of “reform” and “election” are dominating national discourse. “We believe it is everyone’s responsibility—including political parties and civil society—to resolve these issues through patient and constructive dialogue.”

Fakhrul urged BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant and committed to their cause. “Our struggle for democracy is ongoing. We have yet to achieve a properly elected government and parliament. Therefore, I call upon all of you to work with caution, awareness, and perseverance to strengthen the party and its affiliated bodies.”

He strongly condemned the recent killing of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist Zahidul Islam Parvez, also a student of Primeasia University’s Textile Engineering Department. “The individuals behind Parvez’s death clearly do not uphold the spirit of the recent student movement, which was aimed at democratic and social change,” he said.

Fakhrul blamed divisive political elements for the incident and said they are neither aligned with democracy nor the interests of the people and workers.

Paying tribute to Abdullah Al Noman, Fakhrul described him as a rare leader who dedicated his life to serving the country and its people, placing the nation’s welfare above personal gain. “In this transitional period of democracy, a principled leader like Noman is deeply missed,” he added.

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan also spoke at the event, praising Noman’s lifelong commitment to the working class. “He was a genuine advocate for workers' rights and remained true to their cause until his last day,” said Nazrul.

He noted that Noman, a former president of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, played a key role in strengthening the organisation and called on its current members to honour his legacy by reinforcing their organisational structure.
