Election Board for Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) shortlisted 38 candidates from Halrm Ali's panel. The names of the final candidates were finalized after scrutiny on Saturday afternoon.
These 38 candidates will contest against 35 posts in the election to be held on May 10. Nine people, including the president, executive president and seven vice-presidents, will be elected from among the 35 elected directors.
Earlier, on April 9, 42 people submitted nomination papers on the last day. Out of these 42, 39 were from BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem's panel. Independent candidates were GM Haider Ali, Md. Monir Hossain Sheikh and Md. Shahjahan Alam.
The last time for withdrawal of candidacy was 3 pm on Saturday. Four people withdrew their nominations on the last day. They are ASM Kamrul Ahsan, Mostafa Monowar Bhuiyan, Mohammad Abdul Momen and M. Nasiruddin from Mohammad Hatem's panel.
The 35 candidates who have emerged from Mohammad Hatem's panel are Mohammad Hatem, Mansur Ahmed, Fazle Shamim Ehsan, Md. Shamsuzzaman, Amal Poddar, Md. Morshed Sarwar, Mohammad Rashed, Ashikur Rahman, Md. Jamal Uddin Mia, Khandaker Saiful Islam, Ratan Kumar Saha, Nanda Dular Saha, Md. Abdul Hannan, Engineer Imran Quader Turyo, Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid, Mohammad Zakaria Wahid, Minhajul Haque, Engineer Belayet Hossain Ripon, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Gauhar Siraj Jamil, Ahmed Nur Faisal, Mohammad Shamsul Azam, Fawzul Imran Khan, Mohammad Selim, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Md. Shahriar Saeed, Rajib Chowdhury, Md. Mohsin Rabbani, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Md. Moniruzzaman, M. Isfaq Ahsan, Md. Mamunur Rashid, Rakib Sobhan Mia, Abdul Barek and Md. Yasin.
