A Dhaka court has sentenced retired RAJUK employee to seven years in prison and fined Tk 600,000 in a corruption case.
The convicted is Md. Delowar Sikder from Kadirkhil village under Kachua upazila of Chandpur district.
The verdict was delivered on Sunday (April 20) by Judge Md. Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4.
Delowar, a former MLSS staff of RAJUK, was convicted under two sections of the Anti Corruption Commission Act, 2004, receiving two years’ imprisonment under Section 26(2) and five years under Section 27(1), to run concurrently. As a result, he will serve seven years in total.
The court also ordered the confiscation of Tk 52.96 lakh in illegal wealth and issued an arrest warrant, as the convict remains absconding.
According to case details, ACC filed the case against Delowar on May 7, 2019 with Ramna Police Station, accusing him of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Following investigation, a charge sheet was submitted on August 22, 2023, and formal trial proceedings began on September 10, 2024.
Ten witnesses testified during the trial.
