A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered to seize the flat of former lawmaker for Faridpur-4 constituency Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury's wife Tarin Hossain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge M Jakir Hossain has passed the order following a petition of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Confirming the matter, ACC Public Relations Office official Akterul Islam said that Muhammad Shihab Salam, assistant director of the agency, filed the petition on behalf of the ACC.
According to the petition, information of immovable assets worth Tk 10, 32, 86, 438 were found in the name of Nixon Chowdhury's wife Tareen Hossain.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the seventh floor (including a garage and common space) of The Serenity, a 13-storey residential building with two basements built on 10 katha three-sixths of land in the Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Gulshan residential area, has a total of 5,172 square feet of flats and 170 unmarked pieces of land.
This property was made in the name of Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury's first wife Muntareen Mujib Chowdhury as per the allotment agreement on 29 January 2013.
After the death of his first wife, the flat was registered in the name of his second wife Tarin Hossain. Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury bought it with his ill-gotten money. According to various sources, the accused has tried to transfer the mentioned immovable assets since the ACC started its investigation.
It is necessary to seize the mentioned immovable property. If the said property is not seized through the court, it is likely to be transferred or disposed of elsewhere. After the hearing, the court issued the order.
On February 24, the court imposed a travel ban on Nixon Chowdhury and his wife Tarin.
