The two-match Test series against Zimbabwe is set to begin on April 20, and initially, there were uncertainties regarding its broadcast. However, Bangladesh Television (BTV) has confirmed that it will air the series live.
On April 18, BTV officially announced in a press release that the series would be broadcasted on their channel.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had failed to sell the broadcasting rights for this home series. No company showed interest in securing the broadcasting rights within given timeframe, leading to the decision to air the series on BTV.
Speaking at an event at Banani on Saturday, BCB President Faruk Ahmed commented on the situation, saying, "I have to start by saying that the current situation is challenging, both locally and internationally. After some changes, it has taken time to sort things out."
"Thankfully, BTV will broadcast it and we are very grateful to them. Getting a slot on BTV is very difficult. The secretary is here and we've been in touch with him. As you know, BTV's air time has to be purchased. We are grateful for their support in airing this without charge, ensuring the game reaches the people," he added.
Faruk also mentioned that BCB is actively working to secure broadcasting on another private TV channel.
He noted that even if they are unable to arrange for this match, they will make efforts for future broadcasts.
Additionally, BCB has prepared a tender for media rights over the next two and a half years and plans to invite international companies to participate in the bidding process, added the BCB Boss.
