CHATTOGRAM, Apr 18: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is likely to approve the revised project of sewerage of Chattogram WASA on Sunday, according to CWASA sources.
The Catchment-1 of the sewerage project of Chattogram WASA was supposed to be implemented at Halishar over 163 acres of land.
Currently, Chattogram decided to implement Catchment-1, Catchment-5 and Catchment-6 over the same land at Halishahar area. For this reason, Chattogram WASA revised the project which is expected to be approved in the ECNEC meeting on Sunday.
Besides another project titled Chattogram Water supply project of Tk 3,900 crore financed by the World Bank will also be approved in the ECNEC meeting on Sunday, said Engineer Ariful Islam, Superintendent Engineer of Chattogram WASA.
Under this project includes installation of 300 km long pipeline, and installation of one lakh digital metres.
The deadline and the costing of the revised DPP of sewerage project would be extended and enhanced in the ECNEC meeting, said Ariful Islam.
The deadline will be extended to June 2026 next. The costing of the project will also be enhanced in the meeting, he added.
Superintendent Engineer of Chattogram WASA and the Project Director Ariful Islam said that the entire sewerage treatment project has been implemented in phases dividing the city into six zones. A total of six Catchment plants will be installed in six zones, namely Catchment-1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Chattogram WASA appointed a transaction Adviser for its sewerage plant of Catchment-6. In this connection, the Chattogram WASA signed an agreement with a joint venture organisation of Bangladesh-Italy-India GTCBL-IQT-Innovest-BETSJV in August in 2023 last.
The appointed transaction adviser has been conducting a detailed feasibilty study of the project which will be implemented under Public Private Partnership (PPP) and G to G system. Meanwhile, Marubeni Corporation of Japan will implement the Catchment-6 project of sewage treatment plant. Under the agreement, the Marubeni Corporation will invest at around 325 million US Dollar totalling of taka 3,510 crore in the project. Over 5 lac residents of the city at Patenga area will get benefit of sanitation facilities under the project, Superintending Engineer of Chattogram WASA added.
