8 injured in Cumilla Jubo Dal factional clash

At least eight people were injured in a factional clash between two groups of Jubo Dal over establishing supremacy in Cumilla's Meghna upazila on Friday.

The clash incident took place around 10:30 AM at Haripur village of Borokanda union in the upazila.
The identities of the injured could not be known yet, police officials said.

According to locals, there had been a long standing dispute between local Jubo Dal activists Jakir Hossain and Kawsar Sarker centering the president post of the union Jubo Dal.

The supporters of Jakir carried out an attack on Kawsar during the holy Ramadan. They, at one stage, cut off the vein of Kawsar's legs.

Later, Shahjahan Sarker, father fo Kawsar, lodged a case with Meghna Police Station in this connection.

Police arrested the accused involved in the incident and sent them to jail.

The accused, also the supporters of Jakir, got bail on Wednesday.

As a sequel to the previous dispute, the supporters of Jakir attacked the houses of the supporters of Kawsar. The two groups, at one one stage, swooped on each other with lethal weapons, leaving eight people of the both groups injured on the spot.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Meghna Upazila Health Complex for treatment where on-duty doctors referred three of them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their health conditions deteriorated.

Confirming the matter, Meghna Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Jalil said that a team of police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Police were looking into the matter, the OC added.
