Police recovered blood stained bodies of two young siblings from a third-floor flat in Gazipur's Tongi on Friday afternoon.
The victims—Maliha, 6, and Abdullah, 4,—were the children of Abdul Baten, a resident of Brahmanbaria’s Bancharampur upazila, who had been living with his family in the rented apartment.
According to family members, the children had lunch with their parents and grandmother around noon. Later, their mother, Saleha Begum, fell asleep in a room, while their grandmother visited another flat upstairs. The father reportedly left the house after locking the children inside. When Saleha woke up, she found the door open and discovered her children lying in a pool of blood.
Neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing screams and alerted the police, who recovered the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest the siblings were stabbed to death with sharp weapons.
Tongi East Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Faridul Islam confirmed the incident, stating that a murder case will be filed. The parents have been taken in for questioning, while authorities suspect intruders may have entered the flat between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM to carry out the attack before fleeing.
